Identity Checks
Anyone opening or holding a Winnipeg Casino account is covered by this page. Its rules apply when you register, before you make your first deposit, on each withdrawal and any time our checks require further information.
Why do we verify our members?
Verification protects every account and stops the proceeds of crime from entering our Cashier.
Accounts are opened only in regions where online gaming is permitted, and our operations follow Canadian requirements on minimum age, identity checks and measures against money laundering. Confirming your identity shields you from fraud, keeps minors away from our games and makes sure each payout reaches the right person. You can deposit once both your identity and your location have been confirmed.
What happens if verification fails?
Accounts that cannot be verified stay restricted.
Until checks are finished, your account cannot be used to deposit, play or withdraw. If a document is unclear, out of date or does not agree with your account information, we will email you a list of what else we need. Failure to complete verification, or details found to be false, will lead to closure of the account. We may also hold funds and report information to the appropriate authorities where the law demands it.
How do we check identity and age?
Most members are verified electronically, with documents requested only where needed.
Creating an account involves giving us three details about yourself: the name shown on your official identity records, the day, month and year of your birth, and your present home address. These details are then compared against reliable third-party sources. Should any of them fail to line up, we will request one or more of the documents in the list that follows:
- Current government photo identification showing your name and date of birth
- Proof of residential address issued recently by your bank or by a utility company
- Proof that the payment method used belongs to you, such as a statement or account screen with sensitive digits hidden
Please supply sharp colour copies in which all four corners are visible. Each document is checked with care, and we email you the result.
Which records do we hold, and what are we required to report?
We keep verification and transaction records for the periods Canadian law sets.
Your submitted documents, our check outcomes and your Cashier history are all kept secure and processed according to our Privacy Notice. We are legally required to report suspected terrorist financing and suspected money laundering, and in such cases we may be prohibited from informing the member involved.
Do we keep monitoring accounts after sign up?
Yes. Verification is an ongoing process, not a one-time step.
We watch account activity for patterns that do not fit a member's profile, such as deposits with little play followed by withdrawal requests, the use of several payment methods, or sudden large changes in spending. Unusual activity can lead to further questions, a pause on the account or updated documents.
When might we ask you to show the origin of your funds?
Higher or unusual activity may lead to a source of funds request.
In these cases we ask you to explain how you earned or obtained the money you deposit. Acceptable proof may include payslips, bank statements, records of a sale of property or investments, or evidence of an inheritance. Withdrawals may be held until the information you supply meets our requirements.
Why are names checked against sanctions and politically exposed person registers?
Every member is screened at sign up and again over time.
We screen every name against registers of politically exposed persons and international sanctions lists, meaning people who hold senior public positions and their close associates. A match triggers enhanced checks rather than an automatic refusal. Anyone under sanctions cannot become a member.
Who can I email with a verification question?
All identity questions and documents go to a single email address.
Send your documents to [email protected] from the email you registered with, adding your username so we can match them more quickly. More detail is available in our Terms of Use and Privacy Notice.
